The introduction of the Viking Star coincides with the launch of Viking Ocean Cruises, a company from Viking River Cruises intended to branch into the wider world of sea travel. The Viking Star was christened in May in Bergen, Norway, and will focus on Mediterranean itineraries in 2015 and 2016, with voyages from $2,600 per person based on double occupancy.
The Viking Star is being celebrated not only because she is the first of a run of new oceangoing ships from Viking, but also for a keen attention to detail onboard, including many industry “firsts.” For example, the Viking Staris an all-balcony ship, where all cabins come standard with a veranda. That means 465 cabins and 465 balconies.
Compiled by Conde Nast Traveler, it offers a bit of everything: authentic Chicago pizza; seasonal, farm-to-table fare in St. Kitts; and perhaps a few Michelin stars.
First on the list;
1) Belle Mont Farm on Kittitian Hill, St. Kitts & Nevis
Modeled after traditional West Indian cottages, Belle Mont Farm’s 84 guesthouses have pitched roofs, wood-shingle walls, and wraparound verandas. But the star of this property, ensconced in a 400-acre agricultural estate on St. Kitts, along with seven farmhouses, is its sustainable food program.
A kaleidoscope of organic fruits and vegetables—foraged daily by staffers and willing guests—along with fresh seafood from the nearby ocean make for a genuine farm-to-table experience.
